Dear Rob, Now I'm seeing this great girl and with Valentine's Day coming I'd really like to do something special for her. She's 24, works full time. We've been dating for about 5 months. We did exchange Christmas gifts, but nothing out of the ordinary. I gave her a simple gold necklace and she gave me some cologne.
Help me be the romantic guy that
she'll love even more.
Hi MB, On Valentine's Day many women, married, girlfriends, moms, and others expect some type of remembrance of the romantic expression due February 14. First off I'm going to give you examples from my own life. Romantic things I've done while dating and as a married man. Now, my then girlfriend and now wife never expected me to be romantic, so I was able to surprise her the first few times quite easily. After that you'd think that Valentine Day romance would get tougher, but actually you get used to planning and presenting your personal idea of romance. Always remember: romance comes from your heart. And everywhere you turn there are businesses ready to help you. Be selective and surprise her. Romantic events Rob has done for his wife over the years: 1. I bought a nice pair of gold earrings, with hanging hearts. Instead of wrapping the box I put the earrings on a Valentine Bear. She was warm to receiving the bear but I had to point out the earrings, which caught her by surprise and made the presentation something we laugh about years later. I've also done much the same with other jewelry, necklaces and rings. 2. During Valentine's Day I had a barbershop quartet show up and sing to her at her work. When she called me after the singers left she was crying, happy tears. We went out to a casual dinner that evening and she couldn't stop talking about these 4 dressed up guys singing to her. The rest of the office ladies were jealous for years afterwards. Check your local newspaper for this service. 3. I made reservations to go out for a nice dinner. Before the taxi came we traded cards and kisses. When we arrived at the restaurant I had arranged for a dozen red roses to be on the table, delivered beforehand by the florist. Once we were seated the waiter came with a bottle of chilled champagne that I had ordered when I made the reservations. You've got to make your reservations and florist order at least a week in advance to pull this off. Further in advance depending on the popularity of the restaurant. 4. Women love it when their guy buys sexy lingerie for them. It can be quite intimidating for any guy to walk into a lingerie shop, so it's easier to order online. Look for a retailer that offers a deal on shipping and an easy return policy just in case it's something she doesn't like. But seriously, I've never had anything returned that I purchased for my wife, mainly because of the sentimental attachment of the item. Except for guessing the wrong size which I blamed on the store and they accepted responsibility. Whew! 5. The 'man cooked meal'. She was really impressed when I spent the day cooking and preparing our meal. It was actually quite an easy meal to cook, a simple chicken dish and salad. A chocolate truffle for dessert and white wine and champagne for drinks. Soft jazz music and candlelight added to the ambience. 6. The "I Love You" website. Did you know that you could get your own personal name domain and make it something special? Personally, I have www.RobLovesSheila.com and gave it to my wife a few Valentine's Days ago. Although I don't update it as much as I used to, I do try to add to it every year. The domain name is under $8.00 a year and hosting for the website is about $50.00 a year. Make an affordable and memorable gift. And even if you're not that adept at creating websites most places have ready to use website templates that you just need to personalize with text. Very easy!
Keep in mind the basics of any Valentine's Day gift giving:
Small gift suggestions for Valentine Acquaintances: Scented candles. Simple not too expensive earrings. Box of chocolate candy. Bouquet of flowers, yellow roses for friendship, red roses for love, a spring bouquet for admiration. Valentine greeting card with a personal note or poem inside.
