Revenge On
Neighbor Hassles

Hey man,
I love your site. I need help though. My fiancée and I have a nice house in
a nice area of town. We're young and it seems our neighbor has decided to
target us because of it.
She's reported us to the city three times now for overgrown lawn, when it
hasn't been that bad. The first time she did it I spoke with her a month
later across our fences. She never admitted to having made the complaint. I
apologized for our yard and leaves, and explained that I had been very sick
and my fiancée worked 70 hours a week.
We hired someone to do our yard, and he got halfway through before he called
it a day due to lack of sunlight. He went to do her yard the next day, and
she told him I had said he was doing a horrible job and was worthless. This
is what he told me when he called me the next day about the yard.
We got the yard cleaned up, but hadn't been able to mow it in a few weeks
because of rain and work schedules. And she reported us again.
We got half
the yard done yesterday, most of it in the rain, before we stopped because
of rain and it being too dark.
She reported us again today because half of the backyard isn't cut yet. The
city ordinance says 9 inches is when they'll give you a citation, but it's
not over 4 inches in any area. I'm pretty sure she has friends down at the
city ordinance building.
Please tell me how I can get back at this cow. I was considering buying a
flock of pink flamingos and setting them up in my front yard. Or writing her
a citation for having a huge ass.
Thanks man.
Hi,
This busy-body really needs to be taught a lesson. But even more, you need a
break from all the hassles. Why the city is wasting their time coming after
you is anyone's guess, but I think you may be right, she has a friend there.
I'd do two things:
The next time you get a visit from the city, take pictures of what the
complaint supposedly is.
Take the photos to a city councilor and make your own complaints.
Call the local paper too. Let them know about how tax dollars are being
wasted with this.
And, to get this lady off your back and enjoy the summer what I'd do is get
a "House for sale" sign. Stick in on your own front yard. Let this nosy
neighbor know that you're selling the house because of all the hassles.
Of course you're not selling, but she'll figure she's won and won't waste
any more of her time on you.
She's also a prime target for holding an early morning yard sale. Just place
some signs up announcing the event for her. Let her deal with all the
early-bird drop-in shoppers.
