Dear RG,
I am dealing with the biggest brat in the world.
I'm in my first year of college, and this girl became my best friend. We planned to move in together next year. However, one night about a month ago we were going to run an errand and she asked to drive my scooter, and I let her...big mistake. We end up getting into a crash with a car (a stopped car, and she did not attempt to pull on the breaks), and my scooter was damaged, and she received a citation for reckless driving. I was annoyed but tried to calm her down as much as possible, as she was hysterically crying.
The next day, we got in an argument over the whole thing and she texts me that she's going to be living with someone else next year. However, she told me two times that she would pay for the damage to my scooter. That would be fine, we agreed to no longer be friends, but now she's refusing to pay for my scooter. I ordered the parts already and they've arrived, about $150 worth.
She was trying to manipulate me into going to court with her to contest the ticket and said only after I did that would we 'talk about' her paying for the damages.
She told me that I could call her mother, so my father tried talking to her and she's a complete piece of work, screaming at him and refusing to pay a cent. It turns out that this girl lied to her mother about what happened, saying the car pulled into her, and none of it was her fault, etc. She even told my dad that the only reason I was angry was because her daughter "dumped me"! Oh please, I just want my money. There's no getting through to these people.
My dad is a lawyer but doesn't think it's worth it to go to small claims court because of the time, energy, and money involved.
This girl lives down the hall from me and I hate running into her. I absolutely despise this girl and really want revenge.
I can go to court and testify against her as a witness for her
ticket (hopefully I get notified to show up), and she'll have to pay
a lot for a guilty verdict. Is there anything else I can do to get
even?

It is common law that the responsible party for an accident is the one that
has to pay up.
Fighting this in court could go either way because you did allow her to drive the scooter, just like if you had loaned her a car, it’s your insurance on the line, not hers. Just because this is a scooter and a smaller amount of money, well…
She’s a liar. You’re lucky it’s only going to cost you $150.00 because if that’s what it takes to break-up a good friendship, with that type of person, it’s money well spent.
I would post “Accident Witness Notices” describing the accident, who is at fault, what the total repair bill is, who owes what for the repair bill and if anyone saw the “collision” to come forward. Be dramatic in the description too.
Now, you’re not really looking for witnesses but you will
certainly stain her reputation (if she has a good one, 50/50 chance)
if you write your "Accident Witness Notice" well.
