April Fools

Hi.
If you’re reading this then the Internet didn’t get destroyed by the Conficker.C worm.

Of course, if it did, then you’ll likely never know that I wrote this.

April 1st celebrates all the fun, and strangeness, that can happen in life. It also represents a lot of online dating profiles. Many fun, enough of them strange.

I always laugh when I receive emails from women I (and men!) about how they were expecting to meet a wealthy man, good looking too, and end up meeting a rather dour puss, shorter and wider than his profile description.

Guys (and women) it’s time for honesty to be the policy with your online dating profiles. You’ll feel better and sleep easier than having to suddenly lose 20 pounds or grow 4 inches (in height).

Have a great day!

Mate1 Sued For Sex Discrimination

Mate1.com is being sued in California Federal court for sex discrimination an the basis of Mate1.com allowing free membership to women but only paid memberships to men (after a short free trial period). Lawsuit PDF courtesy of “Online Personals Watch“.
This is the same type of thing that brought about udate.com’s demise. The site was in the top five of dating services when the suit sexual discrimination suit was started. The suit was eventually settled (if memory serves me correctly) and shortly after that was gobbled up by Match.com’s parent company to be part of InterActiveCorp.
I really liked Mate1.com but I felt that sooner or later they would be exposed to this lawsuit because of their practices. What is allowed in some counties/states is illegal elsewhere. And I think the eventual end of this lawsuit will be the same as udate.com‘s was. A lengthy delay and a settlement.

Steve Harvey’s “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man”

A woman’s standards are too low and men grade women according to derogatory remarks meant to keep them in line, or use demeaning terms in an effort to control women, but the truth is, women hold all the cards in a relationship… this is what I gleaned from a recent Oprah interview posted on CNN news on this page.

Steve Harvey’s book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” has reached number 2 on the Amazon best sellers list and has some very prudent advice for women in the dating scene and even how to be in control throughout any romantic relationship.

The advice isn’t really all that new, I’ve read it before in Christian Carter’s “Catch Him and Keep Him” ebook but the advice remains true:
If a woman gives in to the guy, she loses power over the relationship, he figures that out and is often gone, out of control, and no longer marriage material.

But, when she knows not “how to control a man”, but how to help him “appreciate a loving relationship”, she truly has caught her man.

Are credit scores sexy?

I’m not sure if a dating service that uses credit scores as compatibility markers is really a great idea, but it certainly is novel.

Credit Score Dating believes that they have captured an important niche, and while I agree that I haven’t seen another dating service proclaiming that “Credit scores are sexy” I have to wonder how successful they really are.

It does seem that they service hasn’t been updated for a while, at least since 1997 by the last “news item” postings on the home page. I’m trying to contact Earl, which is the only contact email address on the site I can find.

Are you interesting enough to date?

I think one area of online daters missing out on “selling themselves” to someone reading their profile is that it just isn’t interesting.

You don’t have to talk about day-to-day life events, that’s boring enough for most of us. But you should have some high points over the past week that you can use to add some interesting topics to your profile that will help others find a “likable soul” in what they read.
Local news, entertainment, really almost any subject can be great fodder for your profile and subsequent email messages you exchange.

Life isn’t always a box of chocolate, but you can certainly write that it is!

Online Dating: The ‘Value-Added’ Service For A Poor Economy

We’ve heard all the doom-and-gloom that the news can dish out on a daily basis. We’ve all seen our savings, investments and future earnings fall below the lowest possible forecasts.

And, if this isn’t news then what is?

Online dating is growing at a faster pace than recent years because it’s cheaper to spend $30.00 a month at an online dating service, meet some nice people, then try out a date, with less risk than pre-blowout-economy times, then it is to hang out at a neighborhood drinking palace, spend cash (or credit card!) on a few drinks and go home without any phone numbers or email addresses.

Online dating, once the foray of geeks and kids is now mainline and growing in popularity.

And you don’t have to trust me. Visit www.match.com, www.jdate.com, and even www.largefriends.ca and see for yourself how many people you can find, single and willing to trade messages in place of a first date, that live close to you.

Canada RevCan Worker Looks Up Potential Dates Tax Info

On the sly, a Canada Revenue Agency employee used government computers to search for information on the young women he met, whether they were worth dating or not [article here]
“The CRA concluded the employee had used the agency’s computers for personal reasons, in violation of its ethics code.” the article says.
The employee says he didn’t.

I guess that you have to watch who you give ANY personal information to, if you’re dating, or just looking for some “fun”.
