- Sony introduces new PS3 motion controller. This really isn’t news, it’s a product press release. But it showed up in so many places that I am starting to wonder what really is news these days… here and here. Why did I even bother with this one? Good question.

- What do you do when you have a dead moose in your yard? First thing, get your puppy away from it. Second thing: Open up the Yellow Pages and find a “moose carcass removal service”. Sounds easy, right?

Afraid You'll Be Single Forever?

This week has given us heartache and joy. Watching the Olympics always is an “edge-of-your-seat” experience.

Of course there’s plenty of subjects to talk bout besides the Olympics, right? Sure there is, so catch up with these stories:

- Killer whale attack. This orca was bad a long time ago and get’s another victim this week. Who would have thought that a whale in an aquarium would attack it’s trainer? It’s almost like no one is ever safe.

- Apple’s iPad declared obsolete. Reports that the software development kit for the iPad operating system now including software that would allow a webcam to be used, which, of course, is not a part of the iPad that will be shipped in March.

- The world’s most powerful people. According to Forbes.com this is the list of where the world’s real power rests. Starnge that my name isn’t on the list…

- Police officer, passed out drunk, get’s tasered by other officers. I guess he shouldn’t have fallen asleep, in his car, in the middle of an intersection.

- “Dear Parents, turn off the TV and pay attention“… is how the letter starts that was sent home to parents, accidentally…LOL… should he stay or should he go now?

Alice In Wonderland

- Tiger talks… sure to be on all tongues today and in he weeks to come. How sincere his apology to fans, and his family, is anyone’s guess… but will this close the chapter that has given golf it’s blackest eye? What should Tiger say anyways? Maybe catch it live on Youtube.com at 8:00am PT as Techcrunch reports. **Followup: Does Tiger Woods apology mean anything to us? CNN report here.

- 13 year old saves daylight savings time in Utah… use this subject as a last resort subject because no one really cares unless they’re high or drunk.

- Does “Four Square” (a location based service) help burglars know when you’re not home? Interesting concept, if you’re a criminal or a security advisor.

- The soon to be released movie “Alice in Wonderland” directed by Tim Burton, is a 3-D and 2-D spectacular has released clips and tidbits for those so inclined. Movie features Avril Levigne’s new song ‘Underground’ and you can see the video here.

- What’s a browser? Personally I’m tired of explaining this to people that use one every day, s courtesy of Google, here’s a video:

- 10 sex mistakes that men and women make. It’s good to get information about the other side of the fence, right?

- Making big news is Forbes.com’s recent list of “America’s Most Miserable Cities”. High taxes, high crime rates, high unemployment, they all have an effect of any community’s well-being. Did your city rate badly? Will yuo rethink that employment opportunity if it requires moving to one of the 20 listed cities? Just asking.

Going solo and changing the subject

I’m talking about, of course, the times that you start, or join a conversation and the person you are talking with has either absolutely no idea about the conversation topic you offered or is bored to death about hearing what you have to say about the topic at hand.

Now, first off, this might not always be you (although it usually is), your target may have other people they are trying to get the attention of, or maybe they have other things to do, rather than pay any attention to you.

What a bummer!

The key to handling this situation is to speak up. Don’t be afraid to be a little cocky, a little funny, and interrupt the badly going conversation with:
- I suddenly feel like I’m speaking a foreign language but I’m not a foreigner, am I?
- I think this just went over all our heads! What about you?

Keep in mind that interrupting the conversation that no one seems to be following along with (even the girl/guy you really want to talk to) is perfectly all right but you have to pay particular attention to the style of your interrupt, just in case your target is half-aware what’s going on with the topic and has an unknown interest in what’s being said.

So, using the examples above, we follow a two-part system to break into a different topic (like her shiny shoes, his brushed fabric shirt, maybe):
1. Break the straight line of the conversation with a distinctly conversation ending statement;
2. Make sure you end with a question, whose answer might allow the opportunity to smoothly segue into a more comfortable, for you, conversation topic.

Here are a few more conversation stoppers and changers you can practice and use. Be sure, always, to get a nod, some positive eye contact or grunt of approval before you go ahead. No one likes a conversation interrupter/changer unless they bring immediate new life into the conversation. Pregnant pauses will kill any conversation quickly so always be prepared, maybe by reading our weekly “Friday Conversation Topics” articles.

- “Hey, is this “conversation subject” draining the life out of us or what? Let’s talk about the opposite of this which is…”
- “The last time I heard about this was my third reincarnation as Ramesses II so can we talk about something more up-to-date like the contract holdout of Albert Pujols with the Cardinals, or Carlos Delgado a current free agent?”
- “I never watched the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Opening Ceremony.”

I hope that I have provided the seeds of inspiration that will help you change any conversation towards a subject you are better informed about.

I hope you have nig plans for tonight… it is Superbowl weekend after all, a lot of what happens tonight will determine where and with whom you see the game with on Sunday.

Friday is here again, all rejoice! (And have a beer for me too!)

Today I have some very informative, and conversational, news items to share with you. Read them all and be ready with a sharp wit and a knowledgeable disposition.

- The missing lotter winner found? Not to throw comedy at tragedy but Mr. Abraham Shapkespeare might have been found buried under 5 feet of concrete. If you recall, Mr. Shakespeare’s lottery winning life started with a coworker saying that the winning ticket was stolen from him, his girlfriend (?) conned him out of an almost million dollar home and untold thousands of dollars and might just be the major suspect in the death, due to her activities of trying to get money out of bank accounts that were his well after he was declared missing and possible met with foul play. Overall this sounds like a real made-for-tv movie.

- Did Apple lay down the biggest boner ever with their new iPad? I think so. No multitasking (surfing and listening to music for instance), no HDMI connector and a host of other “not-haves” makes this a not have for me, at least until version 2 comes out.

- Did you read about the smart family that changed to natural gas instead of heating oil? Neither did their heating oil delivery company… family now living in hotel… SHAZAM!

- How about the girl that videoed the guy playing with his pet chicken (or maybe his gf) on the subway, all rolling around, hugging and kissing his chicken…. With video here. You just can’t make this stuff up!

- The myth of mispelt tattoos is a myth no longer. Complete with pictures! You might want to print some of these out to share at the bar, since they don’t have wifi there yet.

1. The Royal Society of Britain has posted online an original copy of “The Memoirs of Isaac Newton” by William Stukeley. Not only posted online but available in 3D too! Silverlight also, for those of you whose old computer cannot handle the 3D software (download may be required for both.)

3. Vancouver Winter Olympics could be snowless. Less than 3 weeks away and there’s little, if any, snow in the Winter Olympics venues. Officials take heat…lol…

4. All star “Hope for Haiti” Telethon at 8:00pm ET tonight. Boasts plenty of stars to help raise money for the relief effort for Haiti after devastating 7.0 earthquake.

5. Amazon “Kindle” to have apps store to compete against unreleased Apple tablet which is widely expected to be unveiled January 27.
