Seriously, if I had a choice of being off for the day of my birthday, Christmas Day or Black Friday, I’d choose Black Friday….

Really, who wants to go to work with the possibility of bodily harm, early start hours, desperate and ungrateful customers… the whole 9 yards.

I have worked retail and despite how much I liked the people I work with, and the company I worked for, I think that a lot of customers could use some “Ms. Manners” lessons. Maybe even just the first class about common decency.

I have met people that just can’t get good customer service and it’s almost 100% because they’re asses with loud mouths.

Remember, you can catch more flies with honey… blah, blah.

Retail stampedes aside, I think I’ll shop online this Friday.

The reality of being a sports writer is far from glamorous, I’m sure.
First of all you have to love sports, not really really like, but L-O-V-E sports. I figure I’m in the “really, really like” fan section but I couldn’t give you the names of any three players for any one team, in any sport. And if the game isn’t on TV or written up in the crime section of an online news website I probably missed it.

Being a sports writer, I’m sure, involves a lot of numbers, math, knowing games rules better than most referees, inglorious travel, late night writers block, and trying to not hate what you do for a living.

All that probably explains exactly why I’m not a sports writer. If that stuff attracts you, then take journalism as your major, or start a blog and get 1,000 channels of sports Tv and a great coffee maker.

Not so much that I don’t like my current job(s) but more like maybe there is something else out there that I could be good/great at.

Am I missing something by not doing somehting else with my 40 hours + a week workstyle?

This article caught my attention today: “So you want to be a restaurant critic?”

While I might not agree with the writer’s contention that you need to be hated or sell-out I am sure that you need a particularly tough gut to stamach the food as well as the criticsm you’ll receive as a critic.

You have to be able to dish it out and eat it up… pun intended.

I do like the suggestion in the article of just writing a food related blog and lashing out at poor service, badly prepared food and related bad practices but you have to be able to balance the bad and the good, I’m sure.
I’m not sure if I could handle the pressure of being creatively critical, however. I don’t mind being tough but having to explain my toughness is another thing. Would you want to constantly have to explain why you think a certyain way? Me neither.
