WHAT WE FOUND: Dating Disciples is an active service for all Christians and those that are interested in becoming Christian. When you visit take a moment and go over the tour and the FAQ. Anything else at the web site requires that you join. And this is where we have a problem with this service. Too much information is needed to join. You shouldn’t have to provide your address at this point until you decide to become a paying member to match your credit card payment to yourself. Although providing your address does help in the member search feature, asking for more than the state or province you live in may be too much information for some to provide. If you get over that hurdle you can now take the time to complete the six areas of your profile. The first section is the ‘Spiritual’ section so you can share your type of relationship with Jesus. The first question deals with your Christian denomination but in a very general way. You can be “Christian/Catholic” or “Christian/Protestant” or “Just Christian” and a couple of “Interested in God” answers. There should be many more denominations of Christianity here as Christian practices really do vary across America and the world. I’m not quite understanding the coffee references to the profile questions, I think this can be greatly improved on. Complete as much as you can but I suggest leaving out any answers to the “Lifestyle: Beliefs about sex” question. A little to risqué for a Christian service in my mind. Be sure to add a picture or two of yourself but if you can’t get it uploaded because of the small 200KB image size allowed, you’ll have to email it in as an attachment and posting your picture(s) could take a while. If you survive so far with getting your profile up you’ll find that the member search only works for other Americans so it’s really tough to find anyone to get interested in meeting if you live outside of America. And why do you need to supply a zip code (the postal code option doesn’t work as you cannot input letters) once you have selected a state to search? Free memberships are great but there are limitations: you cannot use the Instant Messenger or send and reply to any messages. No forum posting and you cannot use the anonymous chat system to speak with other members which is Dating Disciples best feature. Should you live in America where this service actually works for its members you’ll appreciate the low monthly cost of membership, under $20.00, the opportunity to refer other members and get your premium membership for free. The bible psalms set to music, the prayer request area and being able to explore your relationship with Jesus online with others is worth the membership price. We do like the Ecards and flash movies that you can send to your friends. Look for them under the ‘Referral Tools’ section. Overall, we hope that this service grows into it’s promise, works out their bugs and fulfills it’s promise for a greater online Christian community for singles.
