We like the free membership that allows you to create your profile including adding pictures to your profile and being able to reply to IM’s (instant messages) and emails from Gold members. Free members are limited to replying to messages they receive from gold members as well as a limited search (local to your zip code) of other members. Free members can also create a blog to add information about themselves, more personal than the standard member profile page. Gold members have all the services of free members as well as they can send emails and “Winks” to free and gold members as well as unlimited search features of other members. The forum area wasn’t very active but the blogs have a lot of posts to read and comment on as well as being easy to start your own. Website navigation is easy to understand and to find your way around which makes Deafs.com a fun service for all. Member search has a lot of options to find the people you’d like to contact.

WHAT WE FOUND: Deaf Singles Connection is a specialty service for deaf people and people that are part of this otherly abled lifestyle that understand ASL. We like the simple registration form and the options of information that you can decide to share or keep private. Free members have several features to test out the service (the guest or free trial membership is free and has no time limit), including posting pictures with their profile and sending and receiving ‘smiles’ which are short notes of interest that you can send to other members. You can also send and receive ecards within the community of members and browse and search other members profiles. Upgraded members can post to the forums, use the instant messenger to chat with other online members, enter the chat rooms and send and receive unlimited messages. We like the ability of turning off your profile so that you aren’t available to be sent messages if you want to ‘hide’ without canceling your membership. Overall Deaf Singles is easy to use and has a lot of member-friendly features that can be found at bigger dating services without the crowds of incompatible members.

WHAT WE FOUND: Your visit begins by joining and starting your 7 day full access free trial once you have answered some quick questions about yourself and where you live and you’ve responded to your member account activation email. We like the “Do you have a disability?” question right at the start. It really sets this service apart and will help a large segment of the population find caring people that are aware of any physical differences and not be surprised later on. You should know that the “full access” is only available if you have signed up for the free trial and used your credit card to be billed for full membership after your free trial expires. (you’re not billed if you quit before the 7th day.) Or you can join the message-by-credit plan and only pay when you want to send messages to other members. But the monthly membership plan is best. Your profile section is divided into separate categories so you can take your time answering the questions about yourself and the type of person you’d like to meet. The whisperMATCH and whisperSEARCH features really add functionality to your membership, you’ll use them often. About a third of the profiles we’ve seen have at least one picture included and you can search for profiles that only have pictures which will make browsing the profiles and adding members to your buddies list fun.
