WHAT WE FOUND: ... And it seems so good! Another dating service by the people that almost invented the whole online dating thing. (Actually, I think it was another service that started BIG online and Match.com grew in the late 1990's by acquisitions, but still... you'd think they'd get it right and stand by their promises/reputations!
Now, I understand fully that having a "confirmation email" sent to a new member's email address isn't even a hurdle for a scammer to bypass anymore, but the effort does count for something. And when you say that it might take up to 24 hours for your membership to be approved (although that certain phrase may be gone by now!). Still....
Not everyone is Internet savvy and we pin hopes and expectations on those that make promises. Not that online dating isn't anything more than a promise. After all, if the right person you're seeking isn't a member you're not going to meet them "in that place", are you? And yes, I know that spammers have easy enough ways around confirmation emails but still, I'd rather see them sent than not. I'm more afraid of my ex- trying to find me at a dating service that I am at losing my life savings through one.
On to the features:
I like what OurTime.com offers as far as features goes. Enough to give you many ways to connect to someone you might otherwise miss without being overwhelming.
Would I recommend it to my mom? Yes, I would. The website is easy to navigate and easy to read. Directions are easy to follow, and help, when you find the right page, is understandable.
I do like that OurTime.com is really set up for people over 50 that might turn to online dating to expand their network of friends and possible partner matches. OurTime.com is certainly not just a copy of a different dating service that is aimed at a different age group and that is something to be appreciated, especially those of us that aren't part of the digital generation where email and texting is the obvious form of communication.
WHAT YOU'LL FIND: Free trial to place your profile, become a paying member to make contact with other members. You will find a LOT of advertising... does that make the service more affordable or more profitable? It certainly is more annoying. And watch out for the barrage of emails sent to you about other members "interested" in you. I found any matches offers thoroughly uninteresting. Good luck!
