Donnie Darko: A very dark and somewhat disturbing movie about a delusional teenage boy and his psychotic episodes that lead him to the "End of the World".

Scary? A little. Confusing? Maybe - to some that aren't particularly fond of this genre of film. I was mesmerized by the film's storyline and twists and curves that kept me glued to the screen. I've seen it three times now and every time there is something revealed that I missed before. Something that forebodes the story that doesn't make sense until the second (or more!) viewing. You do watch "Donnie Darko" but in a sense you also feel him.

I will leave it to others to spoil the movie for you, so without going into detail, watch for fitting performances by Drew Barrymore and Noah Wylie, and a great "Defeat your Fear" motivator played by Patrick Swayze. The soundtrack (not available) is suitably wrapped in the late 80's with songs from "Tears For Fears", "Echo and the Bunneymen" and others. You can, however, purchase the original soundtrack score. Although this does not have the variety of music that the movie has, it does feature original recordings of a particularly haunting variety and also the great Gary Jules version of "Mad World".

Certainly this director's (Richard Kelly) film hits all the right places and tempos that will transform this mediocre box office movie into a cult classic. Think "The Blair Witch" and watch for interest to build for this movie long after it's release.
