Alone
With Her (8/10)
Horror
Synopsis
IMDB, Amazon,
Official Website
Alone With Her is shot
through the eyes and camera lenses of a young man (Doug,
played by Colin Hanks) who begins to stalk a beautiful woman
(Amy, played by Ana Claudia Talancón). He watches her every
action and slowly manipulates her into a relationship.
Chilling and creepy, writer/director Eric Nicholas has
created a psychological look into an obsessive love-affair
and its destructive effects. The film is ingeniously shot
through the perspective of the stalker by cinematographer
Nathan Wilson. |

Cast
Colin Hanks .... Doug
Ana Claudia Talancón .... Amy
Jordana Spiro .... Jennifer
et al ...
Pre-movie perceptions
Based on the movie advertising I expected
a horror stalker type movie. With the film being through the
eyes of the stalker I assumed that I'd be opened up to a new
dimension of weirdness based on the anticipated actions of the
main stalker character.
Post-movie perceptions
I was initially creeped out by the first
few minutes of the movie. The opening scenes as Doug, the
stalker, starts his day and looks for women to watch is really
true to life and mindful of several recent stories in the news.
The date and time popping up every once in awhile through the
movie helps to draw out the timeline of the story between Doug,
the stalker, and Amy, the stalker's victim. With the visual
cinematography being done so well you really feel the emotion in
the roles as they progress through their scenes. I've caught
myself jumping a bit due to the raw, exposed emotion of Doug.
The progression of events only enhances the creepiness factor to
the end. I
can say that this movie is a keeper, for those rainy nights
where a really good intense scare is needed and I've given it an
8 out of 10 for date-worthiness.
Movie conversations
If you've met through an online dating
service or just in public somewhere, this film will give you
plenty to talk about:
- How you never know the type of person you meet until sometimes
it's too late and the better value of online dating compared to
just meeting someone on the street and vice versa.
- How some people are too trusting as well as not having good
instincts for when things are out of place, with strange
occurrences remaining unexplained.
- How technology is breaking privacy barriers that we used to
take for granted, with anyone being able to get surveillance
equipment cheaply and not needing an electrical degree to
install
- On an intimate note, a hairbrush? Really?

Pre-movie perceptions
Based on the movie advertising I expected
the standard teen farce concerning a goofy guy, his friend and the friend's
new wife. Personally, I can only take so many "potty" joke movies and I
think my limit was met several years ago. I was somewhat anxious of wasting
my time and being disappointed in watching "You, Me and Dupree".
Post-movie perceptions
Wow! I actually laughed in places that
the movie watcher was supposed to laugh. I felt the emotion as the movie
progressed towards the ending and I was even surprised how well the story
was wrapped up. Good feelings all around. Some of the plot was apparent or
could be guessed at, but the way issues were resolved really had some
original approaches. Simply said, the story is about Carl that is about to
be married (then is) to Molly and the events that happen as the newlywed's
help out Carl's boyhood childish friend Randy. The unveiling of the men's
superficial friendship, how Randy has evolved into a man and Carl has lost
his 'Carl-ness' and the inevitable but surprising conclusion. I've added this movie to my DVD collection because I
know I'll watch it again and again. I've scored this movie accordingly high
at 9 out of 10.
Movie conversations
Surprisingly enough this movie has great
conversation potential.
- Friendships and how they must change as people and circumstance changes.
- Friendships and how true friends are able to not only support you but also
change in the own ways without forcing change upon you.
- How a person's outward appearance may not be their true nature or their
complete person.
- Family involvement in our daily lives, our futures and relationships.
